AG Urges Consumers To Avoid Fuel-Related Scams

Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett is urging consumers to avoid gasoline or fuel economy scams, to identify bargains, report problems and take steps to maximize the fuel efficiency of their vehicles. "With gas and diesel fuel prices at record highs, it is more important than ever for consumers to shop wisely, conserve whenever possible and report fuel-related problems or scams as soon as they appear," Corbett said. He warned consumers to be wary of fuel efficiency scams, disguised as gas-savings devices or fuel additives. "There is no magic way to instantly boost your vehicle's fuel efficiency, so be careful before you spend money on additives, devices or other products that promise dramatically better gas mileage," Corbett said. "These gimmicks or gadgets may give you little or no return on your investment, and may also damage your car or void your warranty." Corbett added that there are free and easy ways for every driver to increase their mileage, such as making sure your tires are properly inflated, changing oils and filters when recommended, avoiding quick starts and stops and not letting your engine idle for long periods of time. According to fuel economy experts, driving sensibly can increase your fuel economy up to 33%, depending on the vehicle you drive and the type of driving you do.

Stage Set For Gettysburg Area Battle Re-Enactments

The stage is set for the 145th anniversary Civil War battle re-enactments around Gettysburg.

...The 145th anniversary of the Battle of Hunterstown was marked with a walking tour and a monument dedication Wednesday. The rural Adams County community was the scene of a cavalry fight on July 2, 1863 as the Battle of Gettysburg raged nearby. The monument dedication took place at 11 a.m. at the historic Tate Farm at 1975 Shriver's Corner Road.

...This weekend's Civil War re-enactments in Gettysburg will feature six major battles, including what organizers call a massive Pickett's Charge on Sunday.  There will be 12,000 re-enactors, 450 mounted cavalry and 100 full-sized cannons. A prelude to the anniversary events included a living history event in front of the Adams County Courthouse Thursday morning. State Senator Terry Punt portrayed Senator McSherry, President Judge John Kuhn portrayed Attorney David Wills and Sheriff James Mueller portrayed Sheriff John Burns. That was preceded by a parade from Gettysburg Middle School complex, featuring infantry, cavalry and artillery units along with re-enactors portraying civilians in period dress. Gettysburg Police: Not Part Of Painting Project

Gettysburg Police say they are not connected with, nor do they endorse a business which is soliciting residents for a curb painting project. The company is leaving cards at front doors inviting residents to pay for professionally applied five-inch numbers along curbs. The company points out that the home address numbers are frequently used by police, firefighters and ambulance and rescue personnel, as well as delivery services.
