Gettysburg Area Assault Sends Victim To Hospital
Police continue their search for three suspects in an assault that sent a 45-year-old victim to York Hospital early Wednesday. According to Cumberland Twp. Police, the assault took place outside Sharpshooters Grill along the 900 block of Chambersburg Road at about 2 a.m. The victim, a Gettysburg man, was not identified by police. Investigators are looking for two white men and a white woman. One of them may have the first name of Nate or Nathan and may also use the name Junior. He is of thin build and stands about 5'8" and is bald with a goatee. Another suspect is stocky, stands about 5'4" with brown hair. The woman is thin, stands about 5'8" with long blonde hair and may be the girlfriend of one of the other suspects. Anyone with information on the assault is asked to contact Adams County Crime Stoppers at 334-8057, 1-800-869-8057 or by text message to CRIMES-274637. Callers to Crime Stoppers are not required to reveal their identity.
Hanover Area Teen To Be Arraigned In Traffic Fatality
A Hanover area teen charged with third-degree murder in a January traffic fatality is to appear in Adams County Court today. Zachary Kennedy, 19 of Conewago Township faces arraignment in the death of 21-year-old Hanover area resident Justin Gilbert. State Police say they spotted Kennedy's car speeding along Route 234 near Hampton and when they signaled Kennedy to stop, he continued south along Route 94. Troopers say they were pursuing Kennedy's car when it slammed head-on into the approaching car driven by Gilbert.
...A Gettysburg woman is to be arraigned in Adams County Court today on charges stemming from an incident where investigators say she nearly struck three police cars with her vehicle during a five-minute chase last month. Thirty-six-year-old Cassandra Demps faces a variety of charges. Police say the chase began when a Gettysburg police officer spotted Demps driving a car with expired registration.
Open House Tours Precede Hanover Dutch Festival
Several open house tours are scheduled Friday, leading up to the 27th annual Hanover Dutch Festival. They include Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Guthrie Memorial Library, the Hanover Area Family YMCA and the Hanover Fire Department's Wirt Park station. Nearly 300 vendors have registered for the Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the downtown area. Thousands of patrons are expected to be on hand to sample the bratwurst, funnel cakes, handmade crafts and authentic German bands and dancers. The Festival also features an antique and classic car show along North Franklin Street. Free shuttle service will be provided by rabbittransit to and from Tractor Supply Co., 1150 Carlisle Street, and Ollie's parking lot, 1019 Baltimore Street, between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Additional Dutch Festival information is available at www.hanoverchamber.com online.
Mason-Dixon Resort To Preview Career Opportunities
Officials of Penn National Gaming have made plans to provide Adams-Hanover area residents with a preview of career, vendor and charitable opportunities at Mason-Dixon Resort. The preview, according to Mason-Dixon Resort chairman David LeVan, will be held at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center along the 2600 block of Emmitsburg Road on Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. LeVan says while attendees interested in jobs will not be interviewed for specific positions, they can learn more about careers that would be available if Mason-Dixon is awarded a license by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Mason-Dixon has applied by a Category Three gaming license. The Board has scheduled a hearing on the application at the Comfort Suites hotel in Cumberland Township Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.
