'717' Hearing In Gettysburg

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled five hearings, one of them in the Gettysburg area, on plans that could result in changes to the 717 telephone area code. The Gettysburg area hearing will be held March 25th at 6 p.m. in the Presidential Ballroom of the Wyndham Gettysburg hotel at 95 Presidential Circle, just off Route 30 in Straban township. The PUC says the 717 area code is expected to exhaust its supply of telephone numbers by the third quarter of 2012. New area codes are needed when existing area codes exhaust their supply of numbers. Six relief alternatives are suggested for ensuring adequate number resources. The alternatives include an overlay of a new area code and various geographic splits of the existing area code.
